Vascular Diseases
Head and Neck

Carotid Body Tumors
These are painless rare neoplasms that originate on the side of the neck, where the main carotid artery branches into the internal and external segments.

Subclavian Steal
Caused by a stenosis or occlusion of the proximal subclavian artery, symptoms may include syncopal (fainting) episodes secondary to reversal of flow in the vertebral artery.
Aortic Diseases

Aortic Dissections
Falling under the umbrella of Acute Aortic Syndrome, dissections represent tears in the aortic wall, with blood flowing in between the separate layers.
Peripheral Arterial Disease

Diabetic Vasculopathy
Diabetes affects both the macrovascular system (primarily responsible for lower extremity ischemia) as well as the microvascular system (resulting in neuropathy and nephropathy). Management is complex and requires a team-based approach.

Varicose Veins
Combination of valvular incompetence and venous hypertension is responsible for the development of varicose veins. Major risk factors include (but are not limited to) a previous history of DVT, pregnancy, or certain occupations that require prolonged standing.

Chronic Venous Insufficiency
Resulting in a range of symptoms from being completely asymptomatic, to having leg heaviness, varicose veins, or even severe ulcers. Chronic venous insufficiency presents a difficult problem to manage.

Lymphedema
Caused by a disorder in the lymphatic drainage system, lymphedema results in localized fluid retention and tissue swelling. Symptoms can occur at different ages and require specialist assessment.
